WATER 2005, September 9

Saunier and associates wish to diversify

Following its acquisition of Gaudriot in February 2005, the group named Saunier and associates intends to diversify is activities around Poitiers and its outlying region.

Water, environment, territorial development, energy, construction… With such a wide range of activities, the group called Saunier and associates is far from stripped of resources. On a nationwide scale, this “large” human-sized business (a French “PME”) created by Bernard Saunier numbers some 23 agencies and no less than 316 collaborators. And since last February 11th, when the Gaudriot Poitou-Charentes agency was bought out, Poitiers indeed ranks as one of the home bases for this specialist in “engineering and sustained development solutions”. “The group has purchased virtually all the Gaudriot agencies, including the one in Poitiers”, explains Pierre Gauthier, the structure’s regional director.

The ensign may have changed, but there has been no palace revolution. The eight employees of the research unit have had their services retained and are still pursuing their principal activities: geotechnics and hydrogeology. Along with ridding the ground of pollution, these are the calling cards of the Poitiers-based agency. “On our staff there is a person specialized in these types of interventions, and so we may collaborate with the ANDRA (French national agency for radioactive waste management), Pierre Gauthier admits.

Geothermics

That said, Saunier and associates have no intention of taking anything for granted. In addition to the functioning of its research unit engaged in construction – the Piquetterie program is but one example -, the group is placing its highest hopes in geothermics. “We shall soon be launching a bid on the national level. This is a technology of the future in which we strongly believe…” In the meantime, the Poitiers agency, which actually covers the Center, Poitou-Charentes, Maine-et-Loire and Vendée, plans to bolster itself through the arrival of three new collaborators by the end of the year – one of whom shall be placed in charge.

As of 2007, “there will be 12 to 15 of us here”, so goes on to promise the regional director, who divides his time between Poitiers and Tours. At present, however, the PME is devoting its time to the effects of the great heat wave … of 2003. Geotechnics has a promising future ahead, most particularly as regards technical administrators and insurers, for whom expert appraisals are utterly indispensable.
